Interesting Second Hand Information

I learned from a usually very reliable source who attended a meeting yesterday with FamilySearch.org that FamilySearch may have an agreement with Ancestry.com, MyHeritage.com and findmypast.com to allow all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to have free access to the three big databases beginning in February, 2014. This was also generally announced today at the Mesa FamilySearch Library. Apparently, the agreement also allows the three big online databases some or all of the access to FamilySearch databases. This would be a very interesting development, if true, although I have no reason to doubt that my source reported the information accurately. My source does not work for FamilySearch and has no particular reason to report the meeting inaccurately.

Stay tuned. This announcement may have been made prematurely because it looks like the announcement may have been intended to coincide with RootsTech 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah. This could be the type of rumor that could be easily started and hard to stop.

  1. Interesting. I guess we can hope they will also give us Catholics a "waiver" also.
